Unable open file when published - blank screen

Dec 20, 2012

When I publish my document (to any format) it does not open. When in HTML format a blank page just opens. I have tried everything I can think of and nothing seems to work!

Hi Faye, welcome to Heroes!

How are you viewing your course? Locally? Via web server? If you view published Storyline content on your local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. This article has more details on that.
Let us know if that helps...
Thanks!

Hi,

Are the security restrictions something that could be overcome if I worked with the IT secuirity manager or are they just inbuilt in the software?

The thing is, even when I email the document (through the publish email option) the recipient still can not open the file - it is just a blank page. When I click on the document it works perfectly, but when I sent it to someone else it fails.

Hi Faye

Yeah, it definitely sounds like a Flash player security issue, not Storyline. If you're planning on distributing your content online, you should upload the content to your web server or LMS, and test it there. If you'd like to test it locally, you'll want to publish it for CD. This article will help explain everything you need to know about testing in the right environment.

And if you're looking for a temporary solution to test your content online, you're welcome to upload it to our very own Tempshare, where we'll host it for free testing for 10 days.

Let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
