Unable to highlight the question in the menu in randomized quiz

Nov 30, 2018

We are working on a quiz module. It has a pool of 160 questions and out of that only 80 questions will be displayed for the user. We are using the default Storyline 3 template.

The client wants some customization in the quiz module.

If the learner missed/didn't answer any question, then an alert message should be displayed to let the user know which question/s is/are not answered before submitting the answers. We were able to customize this scenario. We created a message box where we displayed the question ID which is not answered. So, this is taken care of.

The challenge we are facing is in the menu since all the question IDs are listed in random order. For example M2006, M2011, M2004, M2001, M2010...like so. Just imagine if the user has to search the missing question ID from the list of 80 question IDs before submitting the answers. This will be a tedious task for the user as the user will have to scroll up and down to locate the specific question ID.

Now, for the smooth user experience, we would like to know if we can add hyperlink to the question ID which is displayed in a message box so that user can click on this ID and directly jumps to that question and the next missed question ID and so on. If this is not possible, can we do the following:

  1. Can we add a flag in the menu next to the non-answered question ID?
  2. Can we highlight the non-answered question ID with some color?
  3. Can we sort the menu in such a way that all random questions are in order?

Due to confidentiality I will not be able to upload the sample test file on public domain.

Hi there, Suresh!  There isn't a native way to flag or revisit missed questions when you're submitting all answers at once.  I'm glad you found a way to notify learners of which questions were missed, though!

We're tracking requests for this feature, so I'll add your discussion to our report.  I'll let you know if anything changes.
