Uploading a textbook as a resource in Storyline

Feb 28, 2023

We are designing an interactive course that has an accompanying 200-page textbook.

One group of our learners far prefer to learn using traditional textbooks. We would like to meet their expectations online but we would also like to track their progress through the textbook using xAPI.

As counterintuitive as it sounds, has anyone re-created a textbook experience using Storyline? Did you do it in PDF format? HTML?

Any thoughts?

“As counter-intuitive as it sounds”? You haven’t read enough posts on this forum. You wouldn’t believe the of people (to be fair, many of them are working for government agencies) who produce exactly that; slides filled with text (hundreds of words) and a Next button at the bottom.

My suggestion, (if you can’t get a digital version) is to scan the pages, probably do OCR (to have some control over the text formatting and style), and put it on slides. Way lot easier to design than the true e-learning course you have already created. Probably faster, although 200 pages is a lot.

Walt,

Thanks for your response and insights. I'm not keen on the idea of hundreds of text-laden screens that require a significant amount of clicking to get through. That's why I was thinking about providing a PDF or at least an HTML book that is easier to navigate for studying. More a study reference than an interactive learning experience.
