I have altered a caption style in Storyline and can't recreate it in PowerPoint. I am setting up template PPT file for team to add content; I will import into SL. Created exact caption box in Illustrator, exported as PNG, to import into SL. Any drawbacks for using this method?

You should be able to add a PNG file into Storyline just fine - and if you'll be conducting the import from Powerpoint you may want to review the article here on items you'll want to consider when conducting the import of Powerpoint into Storyline.
