Using a slider bar to show progress through course

I am using a slider bar to show how far into the course a user is. I have been manually making the changes to the slider on each slide. I am sure there is an easier way to do this a a variable, but I have never quite mastered them. Basically I just want the slider to advance one position each time the user moves tot he next slide. Is there a way to add the slider to the master slide and have it add 1 position each time the user clicks next instead of having to add a slider to each slide and then set the placement of the thumb in the format section for each slide? Do you have to add a trigger on each slide telling it how for to advance the slider? So many questions and so much confusion...

You can use the slide number feature and connect the slider variable to that slide number.
Here's a tutorial.
