Using completion of 2 text input box variables to control progression

Sep 21, 2016

HI all, I'm new to Storyline 2 (currently about to implement at work) and am currently upskilling self in its use (it is massively superior to what we had before).

Anyway, in the intro element I am getting the learner to input their name and also the branch they work in (on same slide and layer) so that they can be used to personalise some of the content. I really want them to put this info in so I have set up a 'Start' button (to move to next layer) that begins life as disabled and can only become active (normal) once both text inputs have been completed. Really struggling to do this so any help appreciated.

I did find this thread that looked hopeful but you don't seem to be able to change the state of text inputs (as it looks like they have no state)

Welcome to the community, Chris!

The key here is to create a trigger that changes the state of the "Start" button from Disabled to Normal once the learner has typed something into both text entry boxes. You can see how to set up that trigger in the screenshot below, outlined in red.

Take a look at the demo file I attached to see the trigger in action. Let me know if this helps!

Best of luck to you on this project!

Thank you Alyssa, it was the 'both' text boxes that were causing a problem. I came up with a solution where I put the second text box on a separate layer but your method is much cleaner so I am going to go back and change it to your way.

It took me 5 mins to work out what your 'conditions' attached to the 'trigger' were doing as I've not used them before. Am I right in assuming that they are telling Storyline to activate the button if both of the text boxes are not empty?

Must say I'm very impressed so far with Storyline (and this community).
