I just downloaded Articulate 2 and I'm trying to open a project someone sent me. I get a message saying the file is corrupt and may have been created on previous Articulate versions.
This might be the case (I have no idea).
If it is - how can I work on Articulate 2 with content made with previous versions?
In addition - I'm very new to all of this - which file should I try to open when working on a project? Maybe I was trying to work on the wrong one..
you should be working with the .story file. When you open a SL1 file in SL2 it will create a backup of the file (called backup) and up grade the file to SL2. Once you have upgraded the file you cannot reopen it in SL1 but you use the backup if needed.
SL1 files can be open in SL2
SL2 files are not backward compatible and cannot be opened in SL1.
If the file does have an element of corruption associated with it there is unfortunately not much you can do. If the original author is still around you could have them follow the steps below to try and recover an earlier version of the course.
1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer:
%appdata%\Articulate\Storyline
2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.
3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.
4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.
As a reminder, you'll want to confirm you're working on project files as described here.
