Storyline 1 Freezing Project On Multiple PCs When Try to Save

Oct 28, 2016

Hi –

I have a project in Storyline 1 that freezes every time I try to save. My work keeps getting lost over and over and I'm not able to move forward. I tried to save this project on two different PCs with two different Storyline licenses/downloads.

What's crazy is that I just worked on this file on Monday and had no problems. Now, just days later, I can't get it to save. Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions for this issue? Attached below is the file.

I looked at previous projects I've done and I'm not having this problem, which leads me to believe there's some kind of bug in the project.

I also went back to previous versions of this same project and the same thing is happening with those versions too.

Thanks!

Hi Margaret:

Hmm, you have a tough issue there.

I downloaded your file and was able to successfully import and save to Storyline 2 using RELEASE 9 of that product.

I've enclosed the working SL2 version along with my reply, so at least you've got something workable within that package.  Hope this helps!

As to restoring it within Storyline 1, it's likely SL1 is not able to respond to or properly handle the issue you've got in front of you, hence my recommending SL2 instead to tackle this.

Hi Margaret!

I did not see any issue with your project and was able to save successfully.

If you are only having difficulty with one project, you are welcome to import into a new file to see if that alleviates the issue, but if it's across projects I'd recommend a repair provided you are on the latest update to Storyline 1, which is now Update 10.

Hi Leslie,

Hmmm – I thought I had the updated version, but I did have an issue recently with having to re-enter my license number and needed to re-download Storyline from the site. Maybe that could have impacted it? I will try the update and see if that fixes it. Otherwise, I will need to do the file import step. Thanks!

Hi Margaret:

It's a shame Storyline 2 can't re-save or export the corrected file I captured in Storyline 1 format.

[ Leslie: Possible future feature for Storyline v3? ;) ]

Bear in mind that Storyline 1 and Storyline 2 are distinct downloads.

In other words, if you do not have a Storyline 2 license, entering a Storyline 1 license code will likely give you an error when you try to install SL2.

You could try downloading and installing an updated version of Storyline 1 and see if importing into that might work.

That's the best available option left I can think of here, if Storyline 2 is off of the table.

Hi there –

So I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of Storyline – didn't work. Unfortunately, when I imported the file to a new document, I lost a bunch of my assets (graphics, videos). I can't use the import option because I don't have time to manually rebuild my project. I think there may have been a bug with the latest Storyline update. My file was working fine on last Monday, but when I updated my computer + Storyline, that's when I started having this problem. (as a side note, I tried this on a 2nd colleague's computer and it didn't work on hers either – this is 3 computers that it doesn't work on). What are my options for working in this file and saving? I can't import because I lose too much and I already updated my Storyline.

Hi Margaret!

Was the file that you shared above not complete? I know that I shared a saved file as well, so I'm not sure what you are losing or is it just the fact that you cannot save?

You may want to work directly with a support engineer here so that we can see if anything is happening in logs that we cannot see on the surface.
