Jan 09, 2013

Hello all!

I am looking to time limit an essay question for 90minutes. However when I test it, the timer resets if I refresh the browser. Any ideas how I can get the timer to be constant? Otherwise an unscrupulous student may

Help much appreciated!

Hi Simon. Welcome to the community!

I can't say that I've tried refreshing while using a timed course I guess the thought never occurred to me. I can certainly understand how some students may think about trying that method, however.

What do you currently use for the revisit settings? Have you tried to set it to resume where the course left off? Maybe limiting browser controls would be a good option, for this, too, especially if you're worried about learners taking advantage of this.

Also, feel free to share your .story file here, if you'd like some additional suggestions from the community. You could also make a new example file, if you're worried about the content in the course.

Good luck with the project!

Thank you for your prompt reply. As it stands, the user is prompted to continue where they left off which is nice in case there is a crash. It's just the fact that the timer "resets" that may mean a student could stumble across this bonus time and be at an unfair advantage. We could see if this had happened by examining the contact time on the course, but it would be nice to have a workaround which also continued the timer from where it left off.

I will have a little ponder, and maybe upload a demo file to see if the community has any further suggestions.

Thanks again for responding. I'm already loving the software and the LMS integration is just what I have been looking for. At the stage where I am considering moving from Adobe Captivate and at the moment this seems likely.
