Using variables to make state changes
Feb 23, 2016
Hi, I am creating an activity where the learner will hover over parts of an order and a caption will appear guiding them. I have 3 state changes and 3 hot spots. I have figured out the first 2 state changes using the hot spots and variables but the 3rd I can't seem to get.
I need to have the Nailed it caption state change to normal, when all hotspots are equal to the value one.
This way once they hovered over all hot spots. The nailed it caption state changes to normal "Nailed it" basically they found all 3 spots they needed to find.
I attached the slide layer that I am struggling with.

Hi Shannon!
Thanks for sharing your file and allowing me to take a look. It looks like you did not have the additional triggers to change the state of the 'Nailed It' button to Normal on the other two hotspots.
I think the attached is what you are looking for.
Thank you so much for you help on this. For some reason when I leave the Rule Hot spot last the nailed it state change doesn't happen but it is working on the other 2 with what you sent me.
Let me take another look - I'm not sure I looked at different 'orders'.
You were right Shannon, but it was simply the trigger order.
Here ya go!
Thank you so Much Leslie!!!
Leslie, I am running into a similar problem on another slide. I now have 4 hot spots instead of 3 and cannot get the 3rd state change "Almost got it" to appear. I set up the 3rd one differently thinking it needed 2 (and)’s and 1(Or) for the conditions. I have thought through it and changed the order but am stuck. Could you help me with this slide also?
Hi Shannon!
I have not forgotten about you :)
This question is more of a how-to and not something we usually support, but I'll be happy to take a look when I get a chance to try to further assist you. Just wanted to let you know since I did not get a chance yesterday to respond.
In the meantime, I'm hoping a community member may be able to assist as well.
Hi Shannon!
The third state with the and/or combination would need more defined as the scenarios could be different and that one will take a bit more work if needed.
For my testing to get the Normal state to work, I removed it.
I believe having the 'add one' to your variable was causing issue. I set up some boxes to 'pop up' when the variable was changing so that I could understand better.
I changed the variable to equal 1 when hovered and this seems to have helped and I get the normal state as expected in the various scenarios now.
I hope this helps a bit.
Thank you for looking into this for me and helping out, I will keep working on it. This does help me get closer thanks!!!
