Validating long-form text entry
Jul 10, 2012
I'm using Storyline to present Lessons in Moodle 2.1 and it's working great. However, another component of the course is Activities. I want to autograde a freeform (few sentences) text response and I can't seem to do that in my version of Moodle.
So I want to use a text response slide in Storyline, with a big text box. I have it all set up with the results slide, etc.
The problem is setting the right "acceptable answer." Any answer is acceptable, I'm concerned about completion. Is there a mask field such as "***" that I could put in the acceptable answers?

Mary Jo, bit of reverse psychology needed on your submit button add a trigger to add the score and then add another trigger to subtract the score with a condtion IF variable (your text field) = Null (leave blank).
This way if left blank the user will not get a score
Thanks, Phil! That makes sense
OK, struggling a bit with the triggers and variables and conditions. I think I can figure it out.
Also, no I see I can just make a response "required" which gets me part of the way there (they cannot advance unless they respond.) And then I could add the score when they submit.
But I'm now seeing there's a 256 character limit to a Text response? So this might not work for a long-form question.
