validity for surveys and how to export data?

Oct 14, 2014

These were some objections faced when we wanted to move to Articulate interactive surveys rather than ticking boxes and  would appreciate any help negotiating these

Dedicated survey tools are likely to output data from the survey into a range of reports which lend themselves to detailed analysis, rather than having to manually generate reports in Excel using the output from Articulate.

They are also concerned about data security, I don't know why they think it would be more secure in survey software?

Do we have to integrate  the response data with Moodle’s gradebook for large numbers like several thousand?   The objection raised is that  this presents significant technical challenges in terms of reliably recording responses and output styles generated. .

Lastly, SCORM objects may be inaccessible to some users as this technology requires JavaScript and Flash plugins (which do not work well with mobiles and tablets), and also present a barrier to people using screen readers or other assistive technologies. (I thought html 5 would mediate this?)

Hi Amy,

Good questions.  I'm not sure that I can give definitive answers, but here's my take.

A dedicated survey tool/system is likely to provide you with the quickest access to your data and be a better choice for administering thousands of surveys.  You can certainly utilize Storyline to administer a survey, but you'll definitely need to collect that data via your LMS (likely via the gradebook).  While this is certainly doable, I'd definitely run some tests to see if the data is going to be easy to extract and then analyze.  Especially if, as you suggest, you may have several thousand people taking said survey.

To answer your last point, you should be able to track a SCORM object via the HTML5 browser on most tablets.  Again, I'd check with the LMS to make sure and certainly run a test.  But in the past, I've had clients successfully deploy SCORM based courses/quizzes via the iPad browser.

I hope this helps!

Mike
