Variable/State change not working!

Hi Lovely eLearn gurus! I am in a pickle! I have created a menu slide with 3 states attached to each box: Normal, Completed and Disabled. The disabled state is the inital state for all the boxes att he start (they are grey)
I have added text on to each individual state but for some reason the text from the normal state shows on the disabled state along with the text that belongs on the disabled state. I have variable (true/false) set up to get the stated of the menu button to change and they work, its just the inital state showing the normal state text (hope this makes sense???!!!) I have attached the storyline file so if someone could cast their eye over it and help me that would be ace!

States should have an "Initial state" drop down when editing
Hi Gemma, I think you attached the html output file instead of the story file. Can you attached the .story file instead?
By default, Storyline uses the normal state as the base for the other states so if you just added additional text to the Disabled State and did not edit the text in the state directly, the normal text would still show.
Here is the storyline file - my bad!
I added the text into the normal state directly it doesnt show on the completed state just the disabled state. The disabled state is set to "Initial state"
Hi Gemma
not sure if this is what you are after - I added in a couple of scenes to test it changing state. Not sure if the text is displaying as you want it to.
The text is still showing on the disabled state over the top - I have no idea why it is doing it :(
Fixed it!
Yay, great work Gemma! Do you mind sharing what you did to make it work?
Hi Alyssa, of course. It was really simple in the end, i think I had been staring at it for too long! I had put the text in a text box instead of the shape itself and obviously you cant do a state change on a group so the text wasn't changing state! Once I put it on the shape directly it didnt show! Problem solved! Thanks guys!
Ah, smart idea! 💡 Thanks, Gemma!
