Variable triggers jump to slide
Oct 14, 2015
I have set up triggers when a user clicks certain buttons in slides it marks my allocated numbers, 1, 2, 3 and 4 TRUE.
I have 4 different scenes, and in each one is a button to mark the corresponding numbers to TRUE.
I have a slide set up to navigate to 2.1 when user clicks next button if 1, 2, 3 and 4 are TRUE and to go to 1.2 otherwise.
I can mark 1, 2 and 3 TRUE and goes onto slide 2.1 and doesn't seem to matter about number 4
I have checked all the variables etc and cannot seem to work out what is happening.
Any help would be much appreciated thanks.

Hi Lauren
can you upload the story file - easier to help you if we can see it.
Here is a sample file of what I think you are trying to do
Hi Lauren!
Looks like Wendy has jumped in to assist you here :)
Hi Wendy,
I am not sure how to upload a story, I am only new to using this.
I have attached a screenshot if this helps understand?
I have the 2 slides at the top, on the second slide they need to select the draws in the filing cabinet, each one takes them to a different scene.
Once they have accessed all I want it to take them to a page at the bottom of the screen.
I did it in another presentation with 3 and worked, however in this one I have added a 4th one and now if I access the 3 it goes straight to the last slide without doing the 4th one.
Hi Lauren
click the Add attachment button here in the post and locate your source SL file the one with the .story file extension. It's hard to say from the screenshot - need to look at the triggers to see why its not working for you.
Hi Wendy,
Sorry I cannot find this file.
Sorry just figured it out. It wasn't showing the .story extention on my display
No problem Lauren I've downloaded and will take a look now for you
Thanks
HI I get to this slide and can't go any further - I can't click on anything and there is no next button. Can I call you to go through it - there are a lot of slides to go through
This slide you need to scroll down to get to the continue button.
Yes there is a lot of slides. Would it help if I tell you which slides are the ones that mark triggers to true? The last slide in each scene, has the trigger to go to 2.1 is 1, 2, 3 and 4 are true, or go to slide 1.2
Which are the buttons that set the numbers 1 2 3 4 to true?
Scene 3 LSP, Slide 3.13, Button 1
Scene 4 Focus of Care, Slide 4.8, Picture 4
Scene 5 Mental Health, Slide 5.11, Next button (this is the one it seems to be skipping)
Scene 6 RUGADL, Slide 6.13, Button 1
Change the trigger on 5.11
from Set 4 equal to True when user clicks next button
to Set 4 equal to True when timeline starts on slide 5.11
It will be quicker for you to test and I don't know the answers to everything to get through it.
Let me know how you go
Okay I will try that. It seems to be a problem with the conditions at the end of the slides, If 1, 2, 3 are true it is going to the last slide and not worrying about 4
Having the variable trigger when you click the next button I think may be the issue. I have put all the variable references on the slide 1.2 so you can see what happens when you return to the filing cabinet which ones have triggered to True.
If still not right let me know happy to try and help but can you supply the answers to all the questions so whoever helps can run through it quickly.
Thanks I will give it a go. Are you able to send the file you did this on?
I just changed it to say True when 5.11 timeline starts, worked through the filing cabinet, skipping this scene and went straight to last slide before going back to do this one. Not sure what it would be, I think it is something to do with telling them which slide to go to as there wasn't an issue with marking it as true.
Ok try this:
on each slide where you have the jump to 1.2 when the user clicks NEXT button add the condition if 1 is not equal to true OR 2 is not equal to true OR 3 is not equal to true OR 4 is not equal to true.
So I set up a trigger saying
Jump to slide 1.2 if 1 is not equal to true and so on?
What if 1 and 2 are equal to true but 4 and 5 are not?
Sorry...what is 5?
Maybe I am misunderstanding what you want.
I thought you had four variables. 1,2,3,4.
When the learner clicked the buttons as per your instructions below the variables were triggered to True.
Scene 3 LSP, Slide 3.13, Button 1 - Variable 1 is triggered to True
Scene 4 Focus of Care, Slide 4.8, Picture 4 - Variable 2 is triggered to True
Scene 5 Mental Health, Slide 5.11, Next button (this is the one it seems to be skipping) - Variable 4 is triggered to True
Scene 6 RUGADL, Slide 6.13, Button 1 - Variable 3 is triggered to True
I understood you only wanted the learner to go to slide 2.1 if All 4 variables (1,2,3,4) had been triggered to True - otherwise you were sending them back to slide 1.2.
So if 1,2,3 are true but they haven't been to Scene 5 yet (Variable 4 not true) - they'll go back to 1.2 to click the Scene 5 drawer
If 1,2,3,4 are true they should go to Slide 2.1 when you click next if all the variables have been triggered to true.
It's hard for me to test it a) because there are so many slides and b) I don't know the answers to all the questions. If you want to list the answers to the questions so I can actually get through the entire project I am happy to try and help you.
Yes that is correct, sorry I typed the wrong numbers.
What you wrote is correct however if 1,2 and 3 are TRUE and 4 should be FALSE as I haven't viewed the slides yet it is taking me to 2.1 when it should be going back to 1.2
I have set up the variable, that it should go to 1.2 if 1 is not equal to true and so on for all ending slides. Will test it now and see how I go.
Just tried it. Still not working. Thanks for your help will have to try figure what it is doing.
How do I do this that you mentioned before. Might help to see what is being marked as TRUE
I have put all the variable references on the slide 1.2 so you can see what happens when you return to the filing cabinet which ones have triggered to True.
Okay so I put the references on the slide 1.2 and on going into it straight up it says Variable 4 is TRUE and I haven't even gone into the slides. This is why it is skipping this one because it is TRUE without viewing it.
Do you have any ideas how to fix this?
I have figured it all out.
On setting up Variable number 4 default setting was TRUE and this is why it was always skipping this one without viewing it.
Thanks so much
