Variables across Scenes

I have read through similar problems and tried the suggested fixes but can't seem to get to the bottom of this.
I have a progress bar on my main page that looks like this.
The user is required to go through two activities first in order to change the red marker to orange. I first test to see if LoadData_Demo and LoadData_Explore are finished and change LoadData_Complete1 to True which than changes the specific marker to orange (Partial). The third variable is changed when the user finishes a quiz in a different scene (user goes through a middle menu scene to reach the quiz).
I cannot get the complete state to work no matter what I do from the quiz side. If I put a dummy button on the same slide as the progress marker to change LoadData_Complete2 to True, it works fine. I've checked to make sure I don't have an order of trigger problem. Any ideas?

The 'When Variable_xyz Changes' option is limited to the slide where the change actually happens. So, you need to change the triggers on your menu slide to 'When timeline starts'.
I saw that earlier on a posting but it didn't quite sink in. Finally now I got it, thank you!!

and problem is solved. Well, changed it a little... but still, it works!
