I am trying to use variables to show a layer from a previous slide. The premise is the user has not selected the best scenario choice and they need to be taken back to the slide with the choices so they can pick again. I set up a variable and a trigger but nothing happens...please help!
I'd have to see the entire file to be sure, but your first trigger to show the layer when the variable changes is predicated upon the variable changing when that current slide is active. You may try changing the trigger to say "show layer when timeline starts if the variable is equal to true" This may get you where you need to go.

set it to when timeline starts and add a condition if variable == to
As the variable does not change on that slide, then that variable will not work.

I made the change you suggested and it launches the slide from the beginning not at the layer...
I would check that you have the trigger on the baselayer and set to the slide and not an object.
No reason why it wouldn't work if set correctly.
Also you may want to add a reference to check the variable is actually true.
Not sure how you are setting the variable value but it may be a trigger order issue on that slide.
