video playback issue after storyline update
Jun 21, 2018
We found an issue with the handling of imported videos in storyline after latest update (to file version 3.17.16117.0).
If the video lies in any slide layer of the elearning module, the audio of this video always starts "autoplay" after starting the html file of the project. It does not matter if or how it is triggered and if the build in player is used or not. So we cant handle playback of the video - only if we change hierarchy and structure of our elearnings to a setup were all videos are put in main layers.
This also happens in preview mode when starting any event like prev oder next. So it seems in general, that the audio - playback is triggered by first event of the module (maybe the video plays completely and not only audio - but caused by the layers of the slides we just won't see it).
Does anyone else have such an issue and / or is there a solution to avoid the rebuild of the structure?

So sorry about that, Frank. It sounds like you've run into the issue where videos inserted on specific slides are unexpectedly playing on other slides in Update 17.
Our team is working on a fix for this now, so I'll let you know here as soon as it's ready.
In the meantime, if you'd like to request a roll back to Update 16 to keep working, you can do that by clicking here.
Hi. I'm also having this exact issue. I have video inserted on Slide 3 of my course, but whenever I land on Slide 2, the video audio begins to play in the background. Please keep me posted regarding this fix! It's caused such a headache!
Hi Madeleine and Frank,
This is fixed in the latest build of Storyline 360 (Build 3.17.16188.0). You'll want to update to that version and then republish your courses.
To update launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for Storyline. Details here.
I'm running build 3.17.16188.0 and finding output run in I.E. only still has an issue with video content.
Clicking elsewhere than the video object on a page with video plays the audio of the video but leaves the video frame at the start. This only happens with the first instance of video content in a SCO. Anyone else seeing this behavior?
Hi there, Kevin! Really sorry you're running into this issue; I'd love to lend a hand!
I'm also on build 3.17.16188.0 and published a sample course to Web. I'm having a little trouble recreating what you're describing in IE11 so I'll need your help:
Looking forward to lending a hand!
Kevin & Katie,
I'm seeing the issue Kevin reported, running build 3.20.16814.0. The weird thing is, early on in testing, the video worked fine. Now, the video will not play (just shows first frame) unless you rewind the video.
Katie, my stuff is proprietary, so if you don't mind, I'll send via the private link above and reference this thread.
Hi, Merritt. Very sorry you've come across a playback hiccup on the latest version of Storyline 360. We can help!
First, thanks for sending in your project! Confirming it's in a safe place. 🌟I just shared my testing with you in your case; let's continue our conversation there! I'll also post any relevant insight here once we get to the root. Thanks for working through this with us!
Hi there,
This is an old thread, but I'm facing a similar issue now when my video's audio is playing even though the video is not on that slide.
To break it down, this is my scenario:
Slide 1 has a button that links to Slide 2.
Slide 2 has a button that links to Slide 3.
Slide 3 has a video that is set to play automatically.
What happens now:
Click button from Slide 1. Slide 2 contents load, however, Slide 3 video's audio can be heard even though Slide 3 has not been loaded yet.
Is there any workarounds to resolve this issue?
Hi Russell! Thanks for letting us know what's going on. I created a sample file in Storyline 360 Update 26, and I'm not running into the same problem you're seeing.
You can test my sample file here.
What version and update of Storyline are you using? You can find that detail by going to Help >> About Storyline.
Hi Alyssa,
Thank you for your answer. I'm using the latest version of SL, v3.26.18364.0. Forgot to add that this issue happens when we uploaded the SCORM file onto our LMS.
We are also troubleshooting at our end as well, it seems like there might be some additional settings (at the LMS level) which triggers the video to start playing at the start of the course, no matter which slide the video is at.
WIll work together with our LMS team to reach a solution for this.
Thank you once again for the prompt response!
That sounds like a good plan, Russell! I'd love to hear what you find out. If you need any more help from us, we'll be here!
