Video screen capture and Published story launch question

Jun 07, 2016

I have a story with a couple of slides, that I used the Record Screen function in Storyline to capture.  When I publish the story, the slides containing the recorded screen content doesn't show up using the regular index_lms.html but will show up with the index_lms.html5 generated file.  I am using IE 11.  Should the slides still show the screen capture recording using the plain .html generated file?

The problem with the .html5 is our LMS isn't launching it for some reason.  We have a question in to our LMS people in regard to that issue.

Thanks in advance,

Alton Thrash

The Articulate team will confirm, but I believe IE11 isn't support, especially HTML5. Edge as well. Several IE questions popped up recently and the Articulate team mentioned this. Quick search of the forums pulled up some posts, but I didn't see any of this past week's in particular.

Installing Chrome and setting as the default browser on a second machine might shed light and help with debugging

Hi Alton!

Looks like Brian has popped in to assist here :) As you can see from the system requirements, we do not support the HTML5 content in IE or Edge.

This article shows you how Storyline determines which version of your content to display when you share.

Are you able to replicate this issue in SCORM Cloud or is it limited to your LMS?

Let me ask a different question to get a better understanding of how Articulate handles screen recordings. When I add screen recorded content (using the Articulate video recorder) in Articulate and publish (LMS), how does everyone normally view it? Is that considered HTML5 content or should I be able to link to the story.html file and view the content?

Also, I know when you publish you have a story.html file and index_lms.html file and would like to know the difference between those 2 as well.

Thank you for your answers so far.

Hi Alton!

Articulate Storyline lets you publish courses for Flash, HTML5, and the Articulate Mobile Player app. To distribute your published content, upload it to your web server or LMS, then link to the story.html file in the published output. Here’s how Storyline determines which version of your content to display when learners view it.

Not sure of the technicalities, but I'd invite you to check out this post.
