View Project Button Not Working

Apr 01, 2014

When having the course launch player in new window the View Presentation Button isn't working after I publish the course to the Web.  This issue just started last week.  Two things have changed since then,  One-I upgraded to Studio 13 and Two-I've been working on a Storyline template a co-worker created and she has never been able to click the View Presentation Button with the launch in seperate window option selected.  Please help.  I really like this feature.  I have no launcher.html files because I have to not select the launch player in new window option.

Hi Salicia,

It sounds like you're testing the published output locally by clicking on the "View presentation button" so if you do that it should always open a new browser window to play the content - but if you view published Storyline content on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail. To test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published.

Here are a few free options to consider:

  • Tempshare: This is a free service provided by Articulate for testing Storyline content. Note: Uploaded files will be deleted after 10 days.
  • Amazon S3: Amazon S3 offers free hosting with generous usage limits. If you go over your limit, you'll be charged a graduated fee.
  • Dropbox: Place your published output in the Public folder in your Dropbox account to share it with others.
  • Google Drive: Change the story.html file to index.html, and set the sharing permissions to PublicHere's how.

I have a question on this subject too... on my version of a published locally course, when I click the View Course... I get about 15 tabs opening up each with their own word or the url... Any idea what's happening there... I did an update to SL3 last week and this just started happening. As soon as I upload the contents of the zip to a testing server I can see the course fine... but running the View Course button just doesn't work for me now.

Hi Mr Brown,

When you view a Storyline 3 course on your local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that can cause various features of the course to fail. To test your published content and share it with others, it's best to upload it to a web server or LMS. See this article for details.
