Wacom Tablet Issue

Aug 01, 2012

Is there any kind of known incompatibility between the Wacom tablet and Storyline? When I attempt to do any dragging action to shapes in Storyline, it isn't working. It moves the entire object rather than allowing me to make it smaller or larger. Thanks.

Hi Instructional Designer,

Which model Wacom are you using? I don't have one available, but I wonder if there isn't a Wacom setting that needs to be enabled?

We don't have any technotes on known issues, but I don't think a lot of folks are using them. I know a few users who work with Wacoms. I'll ping them to see if they're experiencing any issues.

Hello,

Please can you help I am also having this issue.  I'm on Windows 10, Storyline 2 with a Wacom Intuos tablet.  When I try and re-scale any object by dragging on a corner/side it moves the entire object and does not re-size the object.  I have already de-activated press and hold to right click on my pen and this issue is still occuring.

This only happens in Storyline and in no other applications.

Is this a known issue of compatibility between Wacom tablets and Articulate Storyline?  Are there any other settings that someone can suggest that I have missed?

I use the tablet for RSI issues so I don't have an option to use a mouse instead so I have to find a way to solve this issue.

I also found you can set defaults for the pen and button by application in the Wacom software

Hi Sarah,

I wasn't familiar with the Wacom tablet but as you see in this discussion a few users mentioned using it and getting things to work. I tried to check on their site to see what the Windows and system settings were to see if they match our minimum requirements here and I didn't find much on their site. Sorry I don't have more to share, but perhaps reaching out to a few of the users in this discussion directly using the "contact me" button on their profile they may be able to offer other ideas.

Kim,

Just wanted to also give you a heads up that responding via email includes your signature here in ELH. You are welcome to visit the forum discussion and click on the "edit" below your post to remove that information. No worries on our part - just in case you don't want your information publicly!

I am also having this issue with a wacom intuos and windows 10 on my work computer, but also if I use it on my personal surface pro 3 in tablet mode with pen.

Changing the settings as per the screenr video no longer works and it is impossible to resize objects with the wacom tablet.

It's rather frustrating, as developing in Storyline with a tablet would be faster and more effective for me.

Any help would be appreciated!

i have just used storyline with my wacom tablet - and it is working ok.- - using storyline 2 and windows 10

these are some of the things i have done.

in wacom tablet properties i have it set to use pen and have turned off touch

if you have storyline running then open wacon tablet properties across the top you can see a list of applications. click the + button and you will be able to add storyline to the apps list and then set the wacom properties your want to use just for when you use story line. stop touch for storyline

you can also go to control panel and the pen and touch settings and stop the right click - personaly i have left mine on but checked the boxes that allow pen buttons for right click

what may be more important is to disable the touch keyboard and handwriting panel Windows services. This stops the inbuilt windows service conflicting with wacom services

1. Press Win+R, type “services.msc“, and press Enter to bring up Services window.

2. Scroll down  a bit until locate the service called Touch keyboard …

3. Double click it, first to stop it if it’s running, and then change the Startup type to either Manual or Disable to prevent it from auto-starting next time when computer starts.

You can always start it again for other application uses.

please post if this works for you

Hi guys.

Problem solved!

Kim - Thank you so much for all of your help! Such a detailed post - it's bound to help a few people.

I tried all of your steps but none of them seemed to solve the problem for me. That's when I noticed the little 'use windows ink' checkbox in the Wacom settings. As soon as I unticked it, it all worked.

For anyone else having issues like this - may I suggest trying Kim's great instructions above, and then making sure you have turned off windows ink under the "mapping" tab of the Wacom Tablet Properties. (I've attached a screenshot if it helps anyone).

Thanks!

:)

I am so sorry I totally forgot I had done this also when i checked the settings - don't forget you can do this just for storyline in the wacom tablet properties so its on for other applications - i have it off for excell as well otherwise its a nuisance in spreadsheets.

To pull it all together here is a set of sensible instructions in a logical order for other readers. if each step doesn't work move onto the next one.

step 1

Open storyline so its in the background, then open the Wacom tablet preference utility.
Across the top you can see a list of applications. Click the + button and you will be able to add storyline to the apps list and then set the wacom properties your want to use just for when you use story line. Use these properties:

Untick the 'use windows ink' checkbox in the Wacom settings. Stop touch for storyline,

Close the tablet utility and storyline. Open storyline and see if problem has resolved. if not move to step 2

step 2

Go to control panel and the pen and touch settings and stop the right click -  tick the boxes that allow pen buttons for right click. You could then set a button to do the right click in wacom tablet properties if you want - optional.

Open storyline and test if still not fixed move to step 3

Step 3

Disable the touch keyboard and handwriting panel Windows services. This stops the inbuilt windows service conflicting with wacom services1.

That's all I've got folks.

You may need to repeat after a windows update - I know I do
