Web Objects: Do they HAVE to refresh between pages?

Jun 02, 2015

I'm trying to make it so a web object (on master slide) remains static as the learner navigates through the course. Problem is, whenever the user navigates to another slide, the web object refreshes.

Does anyone know a workaround for this?

Hi Megan,

Let's step back a moment and consider how Master Slides in general behave. They are the underlying "slide" that loads first for every main slide that Master Layout is applied. Unlike PPT Master Slides, Storyline Master Slides have a timeline that runs simultaneously as well.

So...for every Slide in your course that loads, the Master Slide is loading first (blink of an eye).

As for Web Objects, the "object" needs to load first, establish connection and then load the content (web page, video, etc.) into that frame. While it's moving as fast as it can, by default as Leslie pointed out, it's going to take a brief second for the Web Object to fully load.

Not knowing your design, what is the need to have the Web Object on the Master Slide as opposed to normal Slides?

Thanks Kevin.

I am trying to allow users to interact with a URL while they answer questions about it at the top of the screen. I have been able to accomplish this seamlessly with other authoring tools in the past. Best solution we have come up with so far is to either:

a) store all of the questions on layers for 1 slide (awful)

b) make the course into an iframe and layer it behind the other iFrame. This would be fine, except it prevents me from making any overlays.
