Weird layer issue

Hello everyone!
I have a bit of a weird issue.
I have a layer in a slide master that slides onto the screen when the user clicks a trigger button.
Inside that layer I have some text items. No problems, the layer shows fine, then hides when I click the 'close button' and then reappears if I click the trigger.
If I add a state to the text items inside the layer that breaks my interaction. The layer will NOT reappear when I click the trigger.
As soon as I remove the state from the text item inside the layer it works again.
Been going round in circles trying to find a fix for this and I just don't understand what the problem is.
Any help would be appreciated!

I fixed it by removing the states and going the looooooong way round.
Some reading seems to indicate that states inside the master slide are not cool so I had to add variables and hide/show different instances of the objects I wanted to alter.
Problem solved but a lengthy workaround. Good luck future internaut who may or may not be reading this.
