What is the position of the closed caption box in pixels from the bottom of the slide?

Mar 29, 2023

I'm designing interface graphics for a course and looking for the caption box's vertical position. I can't find any reference to its Y position from the top of the slide or the number of pixels from the bottom edge of the closed caption box to the bottom of the slide.

Years ago, before the Modern Player, there was a detailed style guide with the height, width, and XY position of every element in the Classic Player.

Does anyone know if there is a similar style guide for the Modern Player or know the position of the caption box?

Hey Kevin, I asked Ronnie to look into this for you and here's what I found out!: In Desktop mode, the bottom of the caption box should be 10px from the bottom of the slide, regardless of closed caption size in the player properties. The closed caption box does appear in different places depending on desktop/tablet/mobile view but it takes up the most slide real estate in Desktop if you're looking to not cover up graphics.

Hi Kevin,

No problem! Follow-up questions are always welcomed! Using a default font and default closed captions size, and a single line of text the closed caption box is 39.5px when measured. The height of the closed caption box will vary when you start to change the default options and the number of lines of text. For example, if the closed caption box had a lot of text it could look like the picture below.

Thanks for reaching out!

Thanks, John! I did some testing on my end and settled on 40 px height. For my team's footer graphic design, I recommend a minimum of 60 px - 10 px space between the caption and bottom of the slide + 40 px for the caption box + 10 px between the caption and available real estate for content.
