yes. The template folders are sitting on my deskltop. SHould they be in the same folder as articulate?
Not necessarily. For instance, mine reside on my local C: drive > My Documents > My Articulate Projects > Storyline Templates. When I click on any one of them, Storyline opens and I'm given the choice to import the template.
Oh hey - sorry for the delayed response - out of office - I found a great tutorial and it was what I needed. I am now experimenting with how I can manipulate peices of the template objects. Keep those tutorials and templates coming.
I am having way too much with storyline. It reminds me of my programming days but with it being so user friendly and visual it doesn't require flowcharting or writing code. Yeah!
great piece of software - I can only hope that my learners appreciate the design work to make it more than Power Point on steroids.
I'm still having problems with Storyline templates of any kind - the ones I make myself, the ones from the Articulate website, and the ones I get from this forum.
When I try to open a project template, I always get the error saying "sorry you had a problem. Tell us all about it and send in a support request if it reccurs."
Have sent in support request, but still no solutions.
I am able to open a project and import a template into it, but this problem means that to update my template I have to save my project as a template again.
I'd recommend letting John (your case owner) know that you're still getting the error even after running the repair install. If he doesn't have any further suggestions for you, he will be able to escalate your case to a senior engineer. We'll look forward to getting this resolved for you. Thanks!
OK, thanks Peter. The last message I had from John said to use the workaround I found of inserting the template into a blank Storyline file. Of course, that still leaves me unable to update my template.
I'll ask him to escalate and see what they can find out.
BTW, in looking over a tutorial about templates, I noticed that Jeannette Brooks indicated her templates were in Libraries > Documents > My Articulate Projects. I don't have a folder called My Articulate Projects in that location.
All my Storyline stuff is in Program Files (x86), under Articulate > Storyline. It includes a folder called My Articulate Projects, but that folder is empty. Another folder called Contents contains a subfolder called Templates, but only two template files in there - neither of which are the ones Jeannette shows in her screenr.
Does that have anything to do with my template problems? Seems like it might.
Well at first I thought I could just move it. But the tutorial showed me how to do it. I somehow missed it.
Open storyline and create a new project. call it template test.
Insert New slide. Navigate to templates which is first on the top left tab. If you have previously downloaded them correctly, the templates will show in a drop down. Mine was initially blank so i clicked download templates which opens up to the heores website. Choose the template you want and then click download. Because you are in storyline, it will automatically get placed into a folder called My articulate projects/ storyline/templates that articulates names for you. THe next time you want to use it, the drop down table will show it.
When you click import at the bottom right, it will ask you if want to use in current scene or new slide and some other options I don't remember right now. I did both for fun and then cut and paste what I wanted. One of the objects (notepages) wouldn't let me write over it - was bummed. So i took it out and created some other buttons.
review the tutorial again and pause it while you follow along so you practice step by step. Hope that helps. If not, then there is something funky going on within your files management. V-
Thanks, Vivian, actually that is not my problem. When I click on Templates in New Slide, I get The Error Message.
Now I've found that I can drag and drop a template file into Storyline at the opening screen, and it will open the template without any trouble. So another workaround!
I still can't use any of the Storyline templates installed with the product.
Our system engineer wonders if it may be related to Windows 7 security! Anyone thinking in that direction?
Storyline installation wasn't able to create the My Articulate Projects folder in my Libraries > Documents folder because we map it to a network drive for our customer's use as a shared folder.
If we remap it just on my machine, I won't be able to use our own software. (problem, since that's what the courses are teaching)
I tried creating my own Documents folder, but of course it ends up as Documents(2) -- can't use the same name.
Unless anyone else has a brilliant idea, I guess I'm back to workarounds!
I wonder if there's a way to tweak Storyline on your machine so that it will look to Documents(2) instead of documents to get to the templates folder. So, kind of how in Office products you can change default open/save to folders. Except I don't see any of those options in Storyline. But maybe someone internal, of a SuperHero, would know if it's doable...an if so, how?

Sorry that's happening, Bruce. Have you let Magnus know you've run into it again?
So what causes that? I get it too, but got it to open once.. forgot what i did to get it open.
Not sure.
It happens whenever I try to access a template that someone has created and offered on the forums.
I now know where to go to delete it, but I would like to be able to share in the fun occasionally sometimes..... :(
Bruce
Hi Bruce,
I'm going to try and replicate the issue from my end. I'll need the following information:
1. What browser are you using?
2. When you click on the link to the file, are you choosing to Open it or Download it?
Thanks,
Brian
Hi,
Firefox 13.0.1, and download, (if I remember correctly).
Bruce
I can dowload, no problem. My question is how do I "insert" any template or download into my current project.
I can't access it while I'm in storyline. When I go to locate it on my desktop, it tells me I can't open.
I love these templates, but can't use them. Is there a trick. Did I miss a tutorial somewhere?

Welcome to Heroes, Vivian!
Can you confirm that you download the templates to your local drive, and that Storyline is also located on that same drive?
yes. The template folders are sitting on my deskltop. SHould they be in the same folder as articulate?
Hey Vivian!
Not necessarily. For instance, mine reside on my local C: drive > My Documents > My Articulate Projects > Storyline Templates. When I click on any one of them, Storyline opens and I'm given the choice to import the template.
Have you upgraded to the most recent update yet, by any chance?

Awesome, V!
So glad to hear you're all set now and lovin' Storyline
Let us know if you have any questions going forward. Take care!

And, yes, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Storyline and am using the latest version.

That was the key for me.
Thanks, Vivian. Can I just move (or copy) those files, or was that something I didn't pay attention to during the install?
If the latter, guess I can uninstall and reinstall again.

Well, my problem is now resolved!
Our heroic system engineer created a different user group for me that doesn't share the Libraries > Documents folder.
Thanks!
Hoo hoo! A non-Articulate Super Hero
