Why can't I preview or publish my course?

May 16, 2013

I have HAD IT with this product. I have reinstalled it multiple times, wiped out all my registry settings (and all my custom colors I was using) and copied my content into a new file with NO improvement. Whenever I try to preview (any page or the entire lesson) they status bar stops about 80% through. The publish is similar ... it goes through the pages but stops before the end producing NO content.

Hello Peter,

I have begun copying the content into YET ANOTHER story file. When I did this none of the audio or the slide masters came across. In additionmany of the text boxes were no longer formatted correctly. THIS IS NOT ANACCEPTABLE WORK AROUND. I have deadlines to meet. I cannot keep creating thesame file repeatedly in the hopes that MAYBE this time it will work and not getcorrupted.

As to the fact that I am using the Beta, well if the product had actually worked as advertised I wouldn’t have had to do that now would I?

Hey Randall,

Sorry for the the corruption issues you're experiencing. I'm sure you're already aware of some of the steps you can take to prevent those kinds of issues in the future:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Beyond that, the beta forum I suggested to you in my direct message receives high visibility from our development team, and I'm confident they'd be eager to explore why you might be running into difficulty.

And yes, beta versions are meant to help improve the product, so your feedback is appreciated.

I appreciate the gotoMeeting help but my issue persists. I am working on my project from a folder in the root level of my c drive publishing to another folder on the root level of my c drive... The publish/preview never completes and once again my files are corrupted. I have now WASTED an entire week troubleshooting YOUR software. My reputation with the client is ruined and I have NO solution to this issue.
