I made a test file and publish to Word, and did not get this issue.
It may have something to do with the font yo are using. But I would be curious to see the file. Could you share it here, or at least one page of the file? You can add it using the paperclip icon.
I was able to look at the file, and added a few extra lines of text in the notes. Attached is the published output with the notes appearing as they should.
When you added these notes in, were they copied/pasted from another source? It is possible there may have been some formatting copied over that is causing the issue. You may want to try importing this file into a new storyline file, or re typing the notes.
