Windows 7 Install fails with unhandled exception
Sep 17, 2012
Hi,
I downloaded Storyline, right clicked on the exe an ran as administrator. Install said it was successful but launching Storyline returned an unhandled exception error 4912. Tried a repair and that got the same error.
Downloaded the zip file which has the later version, extracted and then ran as administrator. Install seemed OK but launch returned unhandled exception error with a slightly different reference of 6240.
I checked the site instructions at http://www.articulate.com/support/kb_article.php?product=st1&id=dum5v5l5e7vq but no clues there.
Any suggestions welcomed,
Will

Hi Will,
Welcome to Heroes. It looks like there is an issue with your .NET installation. Try installing it again: http://www.microsoft.com/net
Here are the Storyline requirements.
Always Happy to Help,
Adrian
Hi Adrian,
Thanks for this. I had .NE T 4.5 installed since it fits with the latest Visual Studio but I reinstalled it , restarted the box, reinstalled Storyline and still failed on launch. I was also advised that disabling UAC would be a good idea so I uninstalled Storyline and tried that, restarted the PC, installed Storyline and and it still failed.
This product gets good reviews but if I can successfully install loads of other software on my PC but have failed on various attempts with Storyline and get unhelpful error messages that doesn't do much to inspire me.
Many thanks for your kind assistance and I'm off to check out Captivate.
Will
Hi Will,
If you wouldn't mind submitting a support case, we'll be glad to take a look and see if we can't get you up and going.

Hi Adrian,
That was a reasonable request so I tried but the expectation of the Support ticket system is that my browser must have Flash and I use Safari so that I can keep synchronised with my iPad. Anyway, I loaded IE and submitted it. It might be an idea for the support ticket to be create-able from the forum entry since the support ticket asks for the forum post URL.
What should have been a few minutes to download and install has now eaten up hours. I'm afraid it's been a pretty poor experience.
Thanks again for your efforts.
Will
