Windows shortcuts are not working after update...

Dec 16, 2022

Every time I update Articulate Storyline, the shortcut in the Taskbar and on the Desktop no longer work.

Each time, I have to recreate the shortcuts from the Start menu.

Does anybody else also have this issue, and how can this be solved?

Hi Kelly,

I have not tried these points.

1. My IT dept. would not be happy to ask to turn off this feature, every time an update is available. Restoring the shortcuts has less impact.

2. as far as I understand .NET, I don't see how this could be related.

As you brought up UAC, I believe that that may be the culprit, but then the fix is more complicated than the workaround.

Is the shortcut overwritten, during the update? Or are only the relevant files overwritten?

Hi Jurgen,

Sorry for the trouble! What Kelly shared are the initial troubleshooting steps we recommend. The shortcuts should still work after the update, as it still points to the Storyline executable file.

We'd like to dig deeper into this. Will you be willing to share the Articulate 360 logs from your machine? Here's how:

  1. Open the Articulate 360 desktop app from your computer's system tray (by the clock) or the icon on your desktop.
  2. Press the F12 key on your keyboard or click the drop-down arrow in the upper right corner of the desktop app and choose Diagnostics.
  3. When the diagnostics appear, click the Logs tab at the top of the window, then click Export Logs at the bottom of the window.
  4. It may take a minute to collect all the log files. When it's finished, you'll see a system notification that the logs have been saved to a file named Articulate-Logs.zip on your desktop. Click Done at the bottom of the desktop app to close the diagnostics.
  5. Send the Articulate-Logs.zip file to us in a support case. We'll review your logs and let you know what we find.

Thanks for your patience, Jurgen!
