XML file error message

Mar 06, 2023

If an attached file is not available, when a user tries to open the link to the attachment, an error message (meaningless to the user) is displayed similar to that attached below.  Is there a way that the error can be trapped and display an error slide instead.

I would prefer an error log to be generated at the time of publishing to allow any errors to be fixed before final publishing!

Hello Doug,

Thanks for reaching out!

The error message 'This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.' is generated by your browser and not by Storyline 360. This means that you won't be able to replace this with an error slide since this event isn't happening within the course.

I'll let other members of the community chime in to see if they have any workarounds that they'd be willing to share!

Hello Doug,

In my courses i use pdf files in slide using the trigger "open url/file".

With troubleshooting i realize this happens when you re-publish after changing the path of the file ( like changing the name of the folder or deleting the file.. )  without re-importing  the file. it makes this error.

But this does not happen if the files are in the resources tab in the player.

Hi there, I'm getting the error as Doug did but my pdf files are in the Resources tab in the player. For all four modules, one of the articles won't open and the XML error displays.  Could I manually add the article in the zipped published file then reload in our LMS?
