YouTube Video Not Playing in One Output File

Oct 15, 2014

I embedded code into one of my slides to run a YouTube video from the web. When using the output file story.html, the video plays. When I run the output file story_html5.html, it does not.

I thought, perhaps, it was the browser. No such luck. The video does not run in any browser I try (Chrome, Firefix, IE and Safari).

Ideally, I'd like to be able to offer the module to students in all four browsers but story.html starts as far too small in the other browsers and the user would have to zoom in to see it.

Is there a problem with the output file story_html5.html as a bug from Storyline 2 since it's relatively new or is this a problem on my end? If on my end, how to fix?

Hello Jeff.

There are two ways to add YouTube videos to your Articulate Storyline courses. If you use the Insert > Video > Video from Website option, YouTube videos won't work in HTML5 output or the Articulate Mobile Player app, because they're wrapped in a Flash control.

If you're delivering your Storyline courses via HTML5 or the Articulate Mobile Player, add YouTube videos via Insert > Web Object instead.
