I've been tinkering with a java plugin to allow the end user to control zooming for the entire slide; but regarding the built-in zoom function that can be applied to images - no. Sorry!
I'd also love to know if there are some variables that I can change up to slow the ease in/out of the zoom function though!
It's both abrupt and fixed width to either the true size of the image, or the max height/width of the slide.
Knowing this is how I get around the abruptness - I rescale the images to the same size so that the zoom isn't as abrupt. It's not much of a solution, but it's the bandage that I apply.

Thanks for your reply Joshua! This would make for a great enhancement as the zoom speed is kind of abrupt.

Hope that helps a bit.
That's a great suggestion -- thanks!
