5 Quick Questions for Newbie creating first online course

Oct 11, 2020

If this is a product proprietary forum let me know. I searched for e learning course creators forums and landed here.

I'm putting together a set of targeted instructional lessons/courses (mainly videos right now) on a set of specific topics and will be offering the first of them for sale online within the next quarter.

Can some kind soul please verify &/or correct the major steps I have guessed and listed below...

1 - Create the content
In my case this is a series of per-recorded video lessons.

2 - Use some form of Digital Rights Management tool
To "encode" your video so it can not be easily shared or redistributed.

3 - Choose how to have the course(s) hosted online

  • Do it yourself on your own website
  • Use an eCommerce site?
  • What eCommerce site?
Not a big corporation here so please suggest sites for small start-ups if you don't mind.
  • Do the eCommerce sites who host online courses provide a LMS Learning Management System tool or what?

4 - Put the content up online

  • With the ability for customers to pay for and take the course...
  • By watching the videos online or downloading or what?

5 - Market the course

And finally, any other forums or online tutorial suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for any help.

As I have self-experience and work experience in this question, I will  answer, so

1 - Create the content
In my case this is a series of per-recorded video lessons.

This step I will divide into the following parts:

  • Planning

Before everything, you should have a clear image of the course. Know how many videos are included in each course and how long each video is going to be. You aren’t recommended to create very long videos that may irritate and tire your audience.

  • Making /shooting and checking

Having recorded the video, you are highly recommended to check it. There may have been some breaks or technical inconsistencies that may lead to confusion among students or cause an incorrect perception of the material.

  • And publishing

Whether your website or eCommerce site

2.Use some form of Digital Rights Management tool / Choose how to have the course(s) hosted online

What eCommerce site?

I will suggest you consider Uteach.  For small start-ups, it fits best.

We have created our e-learning website with the help of it, there you could also see my course. Very easy to build.

3- Put the content up online

With the ability for customers to pay for and take the course...

On my mentioned website there is a payment gateway, so you don’t need to worry about it.

By watching the videos online or downloading or what?

I guess nowadays, learners prefer online courses without downloading it.

So, you should clearly present what your course will include and why they should buy your course, either in the form of a video-message or text message

4. Start selling the course

I will suggest the following marketing channels:

  • Social Media
  • SEO – Search engine optimization
  • Email marketing

In any case, you are free to ask me any questions, will be happy to answer them.
