Adding a conditional survey question 2 based on response to Q1

Jul 12, 2017

Hi-

My organization  wants to add a learner survey at the end of many lessons I'm developing. They want to ask in Q1 whether the learner felt the lesson content was relevant, with a 5-point response scale. Then they want a followup Q to appear if the response is 1-4 that asks why they thought it wasn't relevant. If the response is 5 (very relevant), then they want to jump to Q2 and continue the survey.

They'd like to have the responses reported so they can track and respond to individual learners.

Any suggestions? I've played around with creating triggers based on the state of the radio buttons, but that bypasses the Submit button.

See attached for what I have so far. Thanks!

Hi Christopher,

Just had a look at your file and I must admit, at first I was stumped! But after a few minutes of searching I think I understand what's going on here.

First I tried adding conditions to the submit trigger to send the learner to slide 1.3 or 1.4 depending on their answer, but that didn't work.

Then I realized that there was actually no jump-to trigger on the submit button. Usually the jump to trigger is on the feedback layers, but since you don't have any, it looks like the submit button is submitting the interaction AND sending the learner to the next slide. I believe that is by design, but I'll check with our support team to be sure.

To get around this, I did a few things:

1. Checked the "feedback by question" option on question #1

2. Deleted all the shapes and text on the feedback master so the actual layer would be invisible to the learner.

3. Adjusted the existing "hide this layer" trigger so it would hide it as soon as the timeline started.

4. Added a condition to the existing "jump to" trigger so that it will jump to the slide 1.3 if button 5 is not selected

5. Added a new trigger and condition so that it will jump to slide 1.4 if button 5 is selected.

I'm attaching my file so you can see what that looks like. Hope this solution works for you! :)
