Beating a Dead Horse - How do I include a printable notes feature in Storyline 2?

Jun 30, 2016

The keyword is printable. I know how to make a notepad feature for users to take notes throughout the course, but I haven't the foggiest clue how they can print them. This is integral to the kind of courses we'd like to create.

I know that Storyline 2 lets you add a Notes tab, but it seems to be more for the designer than the user. When I tried it in Preview mode, it didn't let me jot down any notes. This is super frustrating, and I can't seem to find an answer to this on the message boards or on google. I've followed the links that other users have posted regarding this issue, but I haven't found a suitable solution.

Help!

Thanks,

Blanca

Hi Blanca. As you sorted out, the Notes pane in Storyline 2 is more for a developer's tool or for displaying a transcript of the course as opposed to a note-taking/input field for learners.

I know quite a few community members have managed to use Storyline's data/text entry field to provide learners with a space for taking notes, and then they've used a javascript trigger on a button to print the notes.

On your quest for answer, have you stumbled upon this forum thread? I thought it sounded like Mike was trying to do something very similar to what you've described. I noted that he's shared a .story source file demonstrating the note-taking functionality he's created and he's done a very nice job in the comments of explaining how his design works.

And another community member, Tracy Carroll, recently shared this template for a learning journal with a print function that might also be helpful to you.

Thank you for the response. I absolutelyLOVE Articulate Storyline 2, but I don't know why it  doesn't have this feature. I'm in a bit of a competition with someone in our department for which software to purchase for our online courses. It's going to be tough to make the case that we should choose Articulate without this feature, given how important it is to our courses.
