Best method for adding content to an off-the-shelf course?

Dec 08, 2020

Hi all,

Any help on this hugely appreciated.

I have built some short 1-2 minute explainer videos using Storyline which I intend to add as 'additional content' to an off-the-shelf elearning course that my company has purchased. The purchased course has been sent to me as a SCORM file and I have uploaded it to our LMS.

I have options for adding the explainer videos to the course but I am unsure which I should use for the best learner experience. I could...

1. Export the content I have created as 'video' and upload directly to the course (I am concerned about the size of some of the video files however and the impact this might have on the learner experience)

2. Export the content as 'video' but host the video on a web hosting service like AWS and link to AWS from the course (does this get around large video file sizes?)

3. Export the content as HTML5 and host on AWS and link to AWS from the course

Any suggestions as to which might be the best approach?

Many thanks

Hi Alex! Great question! If you have the story file, Storyline supports videos up to 2 GB each. Keep in mind that media playback will also depend on the system resources and learners' bandwidth.

If you hit a snag adding a video directly to Storyline, you can host the video externally (as you mentioned) and embed it into your course. Here's some info on how to do that:

I hope that helps!
