I have an awareness training which gets delivered every year. I would like to build in an option for repeat participants to advance & test out, or, for new hires, complete the entire training & then test out. Is this an option, & if so, is there a tutorial which would explain how to proceed? Thanks!
I'm not sure there is a tutorial on this topic, but I would suggest inserting a slide in the beginning of your course with 2 options:
Take the full course
Test out
If the learner tries to take the test and does not pass, you can tell them that they did not pass and therefore must take the entire course and direct them to the beginning of the course (the slide after the one with the two options).
Let me know if you need more explanations or if you're having trouble setting this up!
Thanks for your reply Allison. Not sure what tool to use to get them where they need to go using this method. I've tried branching but that doesn't appear to work at all & doesn't do anything. I am using Articulate 13 Suite.
Thanks for sharing, but I'm not seeing your slides when I open up the template file, just the standard template slides. Can you check the file and re-attach?
I put the quiz in front of the content. If the student passes the quiz, they don't have to go through the content. I put a button on the "passed" results page that when they click it allows them to close the course (or navigate to whatever's next, bypassing the content).
Ah, I'm sorry I assumed that you were using Storyline. I did a quick mock up of this in Studio which you can see here.
I've attached a zip file with the source files in it so you can have a look at them/adapt them to fit your needs.
Basically, what I did was:
1. Created my course slides and quiz as usual
2. Created a menu slide with 2 buttons: View course and Test out
3. Inserted my quiz directly after the menu slide
3. Added a hyperlink from the View course button to the slide after the menu slide
4. Added a hyperlink from the Test out button to the quiz
5. Edit the quiz properties so when the learner passes they skip ahead to the end, and when they fail, they start the course from the slide after the menu (see screenshot).
6. Hide the menu slide and the quiz slide in the menu so learners can't "cheat" and go back and try again if they fail (see screenshot).
7. Uncheck the "prev" and "next" buttons on the menu slide so learners don't get confused about which buttons to use: the player buttons or the buttons you've created on the screen (see screenshot).
I think that's about it! Let me know if you have any questions.
I was responding to Wendy when I asked about the files, sorry for the confusion. I replied to you afterwards and attached a couple files that I hope will be useful to you.
As a side note, I would like to point out that when you reply directly from your email client your signature is appended to the message. You may want to go back and edit out any personal information that you don't want to share with the community.

Hi Patricia
I did this recently for a client - see attached template.
Thanks for the reply Wendy. I am unable to open these file extensions after unzipping.

Hi Allison.
I did not have any attachments in my reply.
I will include the training. I have added a note to you in red text on slide 3.
Thank you.

Thanks John, this sounds like a reasonable resolution.
Thanks for your response...much appreciated!
