Convert CD based elearning program to AICC or SCORM compliant file

Sep 21, 2011

Hello Pals,

I need your suggestions or work around for the below mentioned problem:

I have around 100 CBTs (Technical) which are published in a CD format and I dont have the source files with me.

Know I have a LMS which can host eLearning courses (AICC & SCORM compliant). I need to upload these courses in the LMS, but I cannot publish it, as I dont have the source files.

I have only the content which is in a CD format.

Please suggest how can I convert these CDs to SCORM or AICC zip file and upload it in my LMS?

It is very crucial for me as I have a target to convert them and upload them in my LMS.

Regards,

Srini

I am not sure if this is possible, but what I would do is publish a file to lms and take all of the additional files from that and add to your cd version, you are going to have to at the very leaset manually edit the lmsmanifest.xml file, to add all your individual slide information.  I have opened a manifest file for a 28 slide presentation with one engage and there are over 150 file locations/registrations that would need to be changed.

To be honest it is something I would not ever attempt to do.

If you dont have the source files, you may need to rebuild.

Also as you have published to CD the assets will be very large in size, last time I published to CD I had one slide that was 4mb I would not want load that over the internet for

Here's a possible workaround... pretty cludgy and depending on how interactive your content is, it may not work. But...

  1. Could you take the content, or at least the essential content,  off the CD as a video (ie convert to Flash).
  2. Create a course wrapper (launch page, etc)
  3. Place the Flash with the content in it
  4. Create a new test
  5. Hope for the best
