Failed course registering in LMS

Dec 02, 2016

I am using Articulate Storyline update 10:1509.1408. When I upload my course to our LMS and complete the course with a failed grade the results slide states failed then I click an exit course button and the course moves to my the in progress section of my LMS. I would like it to go to the completed section with a failed grade. Can this be done? When I complete with a passing grade it goes to the completed section with a passing grade.

Thanks,

Hi Shawn,

The movement of a course from in progress to complete is a feature with the LMS, but Storyline is sending the completion status based on the user reaching either the results slide or the set number of slides viewed. How the LMS determines what it does with that information is up to the LMS, so you may want to reach out to them to see if there are any changes or updates you can make.

Good day Shawn.

Based on the feedback you gave, it seems that you might be using a SCORM based LMS. LMSs track SCORM activities very differently based on the published criteria (i have come across the same issue before with a outsourced LMS).

We used SCORM 2004 and had to ensure that our courses were published with particular reporting and tracking options.

You will notice a "Reporting and tracking..." button when you publish your course in Storyline for an LMS (ensure you have the correct LMS API selected). Click on this button to open the "Reporting and Tracking Options" window in Storyline. The setting that is probably causing your problem is at the very bottom - "Report status to LMS as:". By default it is set to Passed/Incomplete, which seems to be exactly what your LMS is recording. Changing this option should resolve your problem. It will take some trial and error to see which one of the four available options fixes it for your particular LMS. Our instances required the Passed/Failed parameter to report / record correctly.

I hope this help :)

Regards,

Joey
