Is it possible to send variable data as statements using TinCan Api?

Jun 17, 2019

Hi,

I'm looking to send my custom timer data to the LMS. Is it possible to send the data as a statement in TinCan? If so how can it be done?

Help much appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

Hi Clement,

By default, the Tin Can output will provide the same quiz data that we do with SCORM output:

  • Learner launched course
  • Learner visited slide
  • Learner answered question (correctly/incorrectly) as well as the actual learner response and the correct answer
  • Scoring
  • Completion Tracking

If you need any other tracking information, you'd need to program that yourself after the fact, which we don't support so I'm not able to help you out there. Hopefully someone in the community will be able to jump in here!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

One way you can export variable data to you LMS is to have some quiz slides at the end of your course that play through automatically when the course is completed.

For the quiz questions use text entry questions and add a trigger to set the question variable equal to the variable you want to report on when the timeline starts. Then have another trigger to submit the interaction.

If you have a results slide that submits these questions you will be able to view your variables in the LMS.
