Multiple Multi-Select Questions on one slide

Hi all!
I'm new to all of this Storyline stuff and can see that you guys are literally the oracle of all things Storyline. Is there any way of having multiple multi-select questions on one slide (for example as a grid) as opposed to having to have them all on one page?
So far, I've tried drop states, where the state is changed to drop correct if the item is selected and incorrect if it's not (using different buttons to drigger the "lines" of answers, all triggered by one button so that the reveal happens all at once). But for some reason, the incorrect one over-rides the state even when it's selected.. So, there must be an easier way of doing it?
Can any-one help a noob out please?

if you've got a storyline file started its easier for someone to suggest a solution if they can see and work with your setup.
just use the grey 'add attachment' button in the bottom of the post to upload the source file.
