New to Articulate and needed direction on Screencasts for software training

Nov 26, 2018

I've been creating courses for my small business and to date have only used Rise (so easy to use and clean results). My next challenge is to build some courses that will explain how to use our custom software.  This would involve screen casts with audio I imagine. It appears Peek/Replay/Storyline all can do this in some fashion...

I am looking for any advice as where best to start.

Hi Jim,

Great question! Do you want to create an interactive screencast (or simulation) where learners can actually click and try things out for themselves? Or do you think that a simple video will suffice?

If you want to do something interactive, I would recommend using Storyline. If you just want to record something quickly, I would use Peek. If you want to be able to record and make edits, I'd choose Replay.

Here are some examples of interactive software simulations created in Storyline to give you a better idea of what that looks like:

And here are some resources to help you get started building software simulations:

I hope that's helpful! :) Let me know if you have any other questions.
