Optional Slide Properties

Jul 13, 2015

I'm working on some new courses at the moment and have been asked for some way to allow users to choose at the start of the course whether the slides should advance automatically or by user.  Does anyone know if this is possible or is it only possible to set slide properties as one or the other?

I do think it is possible but it  would entail duplicating your slides so that the properties in one set of slides is set to auto advance and the other set is advance by user. You would also need a starting slide in which the user makes the selection. If the selected auto advance you would branch them to the first set of slides etc.

seem like a lot of work especially if you have a large course.

Thanks very much for your reply Nancy.  That does sound like a lot of work but could be the only solution!  Personally, I favour the learner having to take some action or engage in some way to progress through the course, rather than having it auto-advance.  Maybe I'll try to sell the benefits of one solution over another rather than trying to accommodate both!

If you use a true/false variable there would not be a need to duplicate all the slides. To do this,  at the beginning of the course, have a button that asks if auto display should be on.  Have a trigger attached to that button that toggles a true/false variable. Every slide in the course will need another trigger that advances to the next slide/scene when the timeline ends; make sure a condition is associated with that trigger that checks to see if the true/false variable is true.
