Popular Player Setup
May 22, 2018
I'm asking for feedback about popular player features for current elearning modules in the medical/certification field. Most users will likely use a computer or tablet to view.
Notes or no notes?
Menu in sidebar or as a collapsible tab?
Other best practice, best user experience tips?
I was watching the "Storyline 360 and Storyline 3: Customizing the Course Player" tutorial and the hero mentioned that it is more popular now to eliminate the menu for sake of bigger viewing screen. Now I need user/creator feedback to help me decide. Thanks so much.

Hi, Natalie:
Killing the menu does give you a slicker look, so if you can do that, I would. Usually it means you have some graphic type of navigation, though. Below you'll see an example of that. Note that the Menu is tucked up to the left, in case someone wants to use it.
If you go this route, you may need some type of menu slide. Like below...
For more traditional courses, I'll use the basic menu below. Notes panel is renamed Script, because that's where I place the VO script. I generally kill the volume icon. Let me know what other questions you might have. --Daniel
Thanks so much for adding the images Daniel. This really helps. I appreciate your response.
So I followed the instructions and tried both options, but I guess I have to resize my presentation? With the drop down menu I just have wasted space on each side of the screen, and then the menu hides the viewing screen.
Trying to get this right with the first one.
Use the modern player if you can and set the menu to collapse. In those screenshots using the classic player it looks like you still have menu set on some slide.
The first image was the old player and the 2nd image was the menu in the top bar.
I just discovered the modern player. This is going to work. Thanks for the responses. I feel like I'm moving forward.
You are welcome. Hope it at least gave you some ideas. --Daniel
