Quiz feedback not displaying randomly

Sep 19, 2016

Hey guys,

I am currently busy creating a simple 10 question, "select one" graded quiz and I am having some issues with the question feedback layers. They are supposed to appear after clicking Submit to let the user know whether or not they have selected the correct or incorrect option. Unfortunately this is not always happening. The feedback options are appearing on some pages and on others not. This is happening randomly as when I replay the scene, it will appear on a slide that it previously did not and not appear on a slide that it did. I think it might have something to do with the custom submit button that I had created as it only started doing it once I introduced the button. The feedback layers seem to appear when I use the built-in submit button in the player, but it doesn't work properly with a custom button. I have checked the button and all of the buttons have the correct variable assigned to them.

Could it also maybe have something to do with the edited master feedback that I had created?

Has anyone run into this issue before? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Thabit,

Did you check that you have a submit trigger on each of those slides and that you have also enabled feedback for each question? You should see the submit trigger in the right hand side trigger panel and it's likely associated with the button you use to submit questions. The feedback layers should also be visible at the bottom right corner within the layers section and/or you could see within the editing set up of the question that the feedback isn't set to "none".

If you're still having difficulty we'll want to take a look at your file - I assume you're using Storyline, so please share the .story file by posting it here using the "add attachment" button or you can send along to our Support engineers here.

Hi Ashley,

Thank you very much for your reply. I've attached the assessment section that I am busy with for you to have a look at. As stated before, I have checked that each custom submit button has a trigger on it. It seems that the feedback works properly when using the player generated submit button, but they seem to disappear randomly when I use the custom submit button.

Any assistance you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Thabit

Thanks Thabit for sharing the file. I took a look in preview and publish and I didn't see the feedback go missing on my first or subsequent attempts using the retry button or closing the course. As long as I used the "custom submit" it all worked normally. I did notice that your "retry" button isn't resetting the results, and as such the next/prev button appear as Storyline is assuming that I need a way to navigate through the course. If I use those - I don't see the feedback as the answers aren't actually submitted. I'd look at using the built in Retry functionality to allow Storyline to handle resetting all the questions and go from there.

Also if you'd like to test my published version out, you can see it's uploaded here to SCORM Cloud.

Hi Ashley,

So i've fixed the issue. Something another user said made me think and indeed it was that. The submit button was created using the next button and the hotspot still contained the variable to say that it should go to the next slide. I think it has got to do with how i initially created the button. I had initially put a next action on the hotspot and then created the button, using that same hotspot as the initial state of the button but forgetting to remove the variable. Yes, that was a very noob mistake on my part. Thank you for helping to guide me me to the solution.

Kind regards,

Thabit
