Reusing Video?

May 24, 2020

I am building a course in SL360, that would include multiple views of the same video through a guided example.  Can I reuse the same video file from the media library each time while still keeping the course in a "forced" order?  I want to keep the file size smaller so it functions better in our LMS. Any suggestions?

Hi Michael.

If you want to save space in your project file, I would recommend using a lightbox slide for your video and then calling this up each time you want the video to be viewed. That way you only need one instance of the video in your project.

In the attached example, I am assuming you want your user to view a different part of the video each time it plays. I have achieved this by using a variable, SlideNumber, which is set to 1, 2 or 3 depending on which button is clicked. The value of this variable is then used to jump the user to a particular cue point in the video when it starts playing. The purpose of the three buttons on the main slide is to simulate the video being accessed from three different slides in a larger project.

Hope this helps.
