I have some old courses (PowerPoint) that have been through at least one Articulate Studio upgrade and probably two PowerPoint upgrades. They have videos and animations, etc. They used to produce fairly fast, but now they take up to 5 hours to compile. I think there is too much junk in these files. Should I try rebuilding them in Studio, Storyline, or Rise? They will eventually go in Canvas LMS.
What version of Studio are you using...09, 13, or 360? If I recall correctly, there was a significant improvement in publishing times in Studio 13 compared to 09. I would first be sure that you have the latest update installed for whichever version you're using.
Next, if your videos are large (100+ MB apiece), that would certainly slow things down because it takes quite a while to compress videos to MP4 format (the video format Studio generates when publishing). If your source videos are already in MP4 format, there is an option in Presenter 13 and Presenter 360 to elect not recompress the video (this option appears in the dialog box that comes up after you import the video).
Thanks for the tip on video compression! I was using Studio '13. However, I tried opening the PowerPoints in Storyline and they hardly needed any edits, so I think I'm going to convert them all to Storyline. The first module I published yesterday was super fast.
That's a good plan, Tamara. Once the projects are in Storyline, you will be able to leverage lots of features not included in Studio, enabling you to employ more interactivity if needed down the road.
