Tallying Answer Types

I have a client that would like to recreate a paper-based learning styles self-assessment. The assessment is 18 questions with A, B, or C answer choices for each question. The paper assessment asks learners to add up the number of As, Bs, and Cs from their answer choices to determine their learning style (mostly As = visual, mostly Bs = auditory, etc), but the client wants this tally to be automated in Storyline.
I cannot wrap my head around how to accomplish this. I don't think assigning values to A, B, or C will work because there's too many outcomes. Is this even possible in Storyline? I could have the learner go back and review their answers and tally themselves, but that's not what the client wants.

Have a look at the attached and see if that would work for you. I use survey questions and three variables that tally the a,b,c choices.
I had this thought as soon as I submitted my question! I'll try it out and see if it works. THANK YOU!
Michael: Can you take a look at the file attached? I've set everything up correctly (or so I think) but the variable references don't seem to be working on the results slide. They keep returning counts of 0.
On slide 1.1, change the trigger order so that the Submit Interaction trigger is executed LAST.
Wow. All these years and I never knew the trigger order made a difference. Thanks a million!
Trigger order is VERY important :-)
Here is some info on trigger order.
You're awesome.
