Total newbie question here!

Dec 10, 2015

I have created a drag and drop activity use a ripped piece of paper graphic I downloaded from here. I had to add textboxes to the ripped piece of paper images and have spent quite a considerable time lining them up just so. I eagerly pressed preview and what do you know when I drag it either grabs the textbox or the ripped piece of paper graphic. I want to somehow lock the two of them together. Is there a way to do that?

Hi Charlie

I took the text box and the ripped paper for Commercial xx - grouped them together, then saved as a picture.  I then inserted that picture back into the slide.  You can then add that picture as your drag item - in this case I put correct to the Not suitable category.  The text may not be as crisp as you like I didn't spend any time formatting.

See if the attached file works for you

Hi Charlie - no problem.

Click the ripped paper and the corresponding text so they are both selected, then right click and select Group. Right click again on the group and select Save as picture (save to a folder on your desktop to make easy to find them). Then remove all the text boxes and shapes you have on the slide and insert each of the new pictures in and arrange how you want.  You'll then need to go through the form view and re-select the drag item (your new pics) and which drop item they are destined for to make answer correct.

Hope that helps - check out this tutorial it may help you

I have another suggestion that will allow you to keep the text editable in Storyline.

  1. First off you'll need to create a shape the exact same pixel dimensions as one of your torn pieces of paper. It is important that you get the size right otherwise your shape will look distorted. Remember to remove the outline too.
  2. Next, right-click the shape and select Format Shape and then select Picture or Texture Fill, and then File. Navigate to your torn paper image and add it to the shape.
  3. Next, right-click on the shape again and select Edit Text. Add the text you want to display for that particular shape. You may need to play with the internal margins on the text box to get the text to fit comfortably.
  4. Repeat this for all of your options.

I have re-attached your file where I have made the suggested change to the 'Commercial, industrial and residential buildings' option on Slide 1.1
