Audio not playing on layer

I am trying to update a course created by a third party.  I updated narration/audio on a layer (slide has two layers in addition to the base layer).  The audio is there but I can't hear it.  I can hear the audio on the base layer and the third layer.  I have tried to research why this might be happening but I have not been able to figure it out.  Any ideas?  Thank you.

  • Are you able to double click the audio on the timeline, to open it in the audio editor to confirm that the audio is actually there?

Yes.  I also deleted it and added it back.  It is so strange.  I have not seen this before (except once when I forgot I had "hid" the audio) but I double checked the "eye" is checked.

When I right click to preview that specific audio, it plays.  When I click to preview the whole slide it doesn't.  Also, it does not play when I publish to Review 360.

  • were there triggers on the audio you deleted? I would have replaced rather than deleted it. May not be the reason

I replaced first and that did not work so I deleted and added back.  No, there are no triggers for the audio.

Is there a trigger that may be pausing the layer? Also, try renaming the audio file on the timeline.

  • Can you post pictures of the trigger panel, is it possible the slide is being paused at the beginning?

Here is the layer trigger panel.  Thanks everyone for trying to help me!

I assume there's a button that the user will need to click to show that layer? or some trigger that will launch that layer? Can you verify that the layer is actually launching? Is there only audio on that layer? If yes, then you will need to add some image/object on that layer to verify that it is indeed launching.  If it's not launching, then that is the issue.

Yes there is a button and trigger to launch layer and it is working.  There is text and audio on the layer.

  • Nothing there, anything on the slide master?

Is it only audio on the layer? Have you verified the layer is showing by putting a big rectangle on it?

Difficult to see why without seeing a slide, you may need to raise a ticket if you cannot post it

This is so strange.  I tried publishing to Review 360 again and the audio is now playing on the layer.  But it still isn't playing when I just push play from within the slide.

      Hi Sheri_Matt

      Happy to help!

      • Have you tried importing your existing file into a brand new .story file and see if you experience the same behavior?
      • If you replace the audio with another audio file, do you experience the same behavior? I'm curious if this is something related to the specific audio file included in this layer.

We'll need to test your project file to better understand why the behavior is varying with your audio. Would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can test and observe what's happening? We'll delete it when we're done testing!
