Duration of Objects in Storyline Timeline

If I insert an object in the timeline in Storyline, the end always runs to the end of the timeline.  When you have a 3 or 4 minute audio and you want to insert 20 or 30 objects, it can be a real pain to have to scroll to the end of the timeline so you can drag the end back and make the object appear and disappear when I want it to.  Question - does anyone know how to shorten the duration of the object before inserting into the timeline?  Or is there a way to cut it so you don't have to continue to scroll to the end to change the duration?  Hope this video helps explain what I am talking about.

  • Hi, Jack.

Thank you for sharing the screen recording!

When you insert an object, if you right-click the item on the timeline and select Timing, you can adjust its start time and duration. See below:

Let me know if that works!

That worked perfectly!  Thank you!  Also thanks to Tom for the additional tricks!

  • A couple of other tricks to go with the tip above:

    • You can select all of the objects and adjust the time using the above tip and not do it one-by-one
    • If you're inserting from scratch, you could create a placeholder image (assuming it's an image file) and set the duration. Then copy and paste (or paste special) so you have placeholders. Instead of inserting you exchange the image.
